ReliOn Insulin Syringes Recall
On November 5, 2008, the FDA released a report on the recall of mislabeled
ReliOn Insulin Syringes for diabetes. ReliOn syringes are manufactured by
Tyco Healthcare Group, LP (Covidein). One lot of the syringes with
permanently affixed hypodermic
needles is being recalled due to potential
mislabeling. According to the FDA, use of these syringes could result in an
overdose of as much as 2.5 times the intended dose, and lead to
hypoglycemia, other health complications and even death.
This recall applies to the following:
• Lot Number 813900
• ReliOn 1cc, 31-gauge, 100 units for use with U-100 insulin
These syringes are available only at Wal-Mart and Sam's Clubs under the
ReliOn name. The FDA says that Wal-Mart is requesting customers return these
syringes to their local Wal-Mart store or Sam's Club pharmacy to be issued a
replacement product.
