GE Dishwashers Recalled Due to Fire Hazard

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) has announced a voluntary recall of GE brand dishwashers. The dishwashers are being recalled due to the potential for electrical failure in the dishwasher’s heating element that may pose a fire hazard. According to GE, it has received 15 reports of dishwasher heating element failures, including seven reports of fires, three of which caused extensive property damage. No injuries have been reported.

The specific dishwashers being recalled are GE, GE Adora, GE Eterna, GE Profile and Hotpoint brand dishwashers. The dishwashers were sold in black, white, bisque, stainless steel and CleanSteel exterior colors and finishes.

The model and serial numbers of the dishwashers can be found on a metallic plate located on the left tub wall visible when the door is opened. The recalled dishwashers have model and serial numbers that start with one of the following sequences:

The recalled dishwashers were sold between March 2006 through August 2009 for between $350 and $850. Approximately 1.3 million dishwashers are subject to the recall.

If you have one of the recalled dishwashers, you should immediately stop using the dishwasher, shut off the electric supply to the dishwasher and call GE.
