Retail giant IKEA has announced a recall of its Gunggung swing for children. Consumers should immediately take down the swing to prevent use by children and return it to any IKEA store for a full refund, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. The swing’s suspension fittings can break causing a child to fall from the swing, posing a risk of serious injury, according to an announcement of the recall published by the CPSC.
There have been four reports of children who were hurt after the swing’s fittings broke, according to the CPSC. The injury reports have come from around the world: one in Germany, two in Austria and one in Canada. In one incident, a child fell and sustained a fractured leg.
The recalled Gunggung swing is intended for indoor and outdoor use for children age three to seven. The swing retails for $20 at IKEA stores and the company website. The swing, manufactured in Vietnam, is made of green polyester fabric and hangs from a plastic suspension fitting attached to steel hooks.
According to the recall announcement, IKEA is urging customers who have the swing to immediately bring it back to any IKEA store for a full refund. Proof of purchase (receipt) is not required for a full refund. For more information, consumers can contact IKEA toll-free at (888) 966-4532.
