Yokohoma issues tire recall due to risk of sidewall cracks and rapid air loss

Yokohama Tire Corporation is recalling certain AVID Touring S tires, size 215/65R16 98T SL, produced between February 2009 and April 2009. According to a notice of the recall issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the tires may have been produced with an irregular geometry in the casing turn up area above the tire bead in the lower sidewall.

This irregular geometry may lead to a lower sidewall crack resulting in a rapid loss of tire inflation. Rapid air loss while the vehicle is in use may result in a tire failure that could cause a crash.

The tires included in the recall are limited to one size of AVID Touring-S (215/65R16 98T), produced between February 2009 and April 2009. Yokohama will notify owners, and dealers will replace the tires free of charge.

According to Yokohama, if you own an AVID Touring-S tire in size 215/65R16 98T, please visit your local dealer at your earliest convenience for an inspection. If the dealer determines your tires are eligible for this recall, they will replace and mount the new tires for free.
